BROWNSVILLE
May 15:  Colonial Silver  of  Mexico:  XVI  Century  to  XIX  Century.  The Opening  reception  starts  at  6:00  p.m and  is  free  to  the  public  at  the  Brownsville  Heritage  Complex.  The exhibit will be on display until August 30.  For more information call (956) 541-5560.   

May17:  Unveiling  of  the  Children’s  Exhibit  and  Program  “The  Keepers  of  the  Crypt”:  A  project  by  Hudson  Elementary  School  and  the  Brownsville  Historical  Association.  This event is  free  to  the  public  and  will  be  held  at  the  Old  Cemetery  Center  located  at  600  E.  Jackson  St.  (on  the  corner  of  6th  and  Monroe).  Guided  cemetery  tours  led  by  Hudson  Elementary  students  will  start  at  5  p.m.  For more  information   call  (956)  541-5560  or  (956)  541-1167.

May  26:  10th  Annual  Memorial  Day  Silent  March:  Tribute  To  All  Fallen  Soldiers.  The  One  Mile  “Silent  March”  will  start  on  the  corner  of  Central  Blvd  and  Boca  Chica  (HEB  parking  lot)  at  10:00  a.m.  The  march  will  end  at  our  Brownsville  Veterans  Park,  next  to  the  Brownsville  Public  Library  with  ceremonies,  refreshments,  21  Gun  Salute  and  Our  Glory  Flag  Raising.  For  more  information  call  (956)  542-8967  /  (956)  492-5238  /  Tiny  or  Yoli.  Parks  &  Recreation  (956)  542-2064.  Open to the public, veterans and their guests.

June 9 13:  2008  Heritage  Discovery  Summer  Camp  at  the  Brownsville  Heritage  Complex  located  at  1325 Washington  Street.  Children  ages  8  to  12  years  (kids  under  8  must  be  accompanied  
by  an  adult)  can  experience  historical  tours,  guest  speakers,  cultural  Arts/Crafts,  and  much  more  starting  at  9:00  a.m.  until noon.  Sponsored  by  the  Brownsville  Junior  League.  Scholarships  Available.  For more information (956)  541-5560.

Through July 6: The  Gladys  Porter  Zoo  invites  you  to  take  a  journey  into  the  past.   Visit  the  prehistoric  times  of  the  dinosaurs  at  Return  of  the  Dinosaurs.  Highlights  include  a  growling  Tyrannosaurus  Rex,  a  mother  Maiasaura  feeding  her  young  and  a  pack  of  Deinonychus  devouring  a  Triceratops.Admission  is  $2.50  per  person  with  regular  paid  admission.   For  more  information  visit  our  website  www.gpz.org  or  call  (956)  546-7187.

May 24: Capital One Bank Ride Against Hunger Bike Tour. Riders may choose from a 25, 45 and 60 mile route. Edinburg Municipal Park, S. Raul Longoria and Sprague Street. May 16: Turtle Days and Lighting of the Tiki Torches. Local residents place tiki torches in the bay which are then lit by the King and Queen and their flotilla of kayaks to welcome this season’s nesting turtles. Free. After ceremony party at Palm Street Pier with performance by Michael Lafferty.

May 16-17: Shallow Sport 8th Annual Owners Fishing Tournament, Louie’s Backyard.
